Mission Statement
Determination Counseling and Psychological Services specializes in trauma-based treatment with convenient access to mental health providers. It is the mission of Determination Counseling and Psychological Services to provide culturally diverse mental health treatment to a variety of individuals, in an effort to make the world a place that we all want to be a part of.
Philosophy and Vision:
It is my philosophy that each individual is “uniquely beautiful” and that given the right help and training that we all have the ability to become our “ideal” self.
Accepted Insurance
Determination Counseling and Psychological Services is now providing both in-person (central valley area only) and telepsychology services, also known as telehealth services. Telepsychology services are conducted remotely via video conference (i.e., “video-chatting”) and/or synchronous audio conferencing.
Determination Counseling and Psychological Services is currently accepting Optum Behavioral Health & affiliate companies, Cigna/Evernorth, TriCare West, Magallen(Blue Shield), traditional Medicare, and most EAP providers. You may be able to receive reimbursement through your insurance provider for approved Out-of-network services if your provider is not one of the companies listed above. Our rates vary depending on services provided but are typically lower than other providers in the area.
Some Services We Offer
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy is a form of therapy in which the client is treated on a one-on-one basis with a therapist.
Family Psychotherapy
Family psychotherapy is a type of therapy that can help family members improve their communication and resolve conflicts between its’ members.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) psychotherapy is a type of therapy that enables people to recover from trauma and/or other distressing life experiences and symptoms through the use of bilateral stimulation.

Meet our Therapist
Dr. Brooks-Gordon received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of North Texas in 2011. In 2012, she received a Master’s degree in psychology with a concentration in Child and Adolescent psychology. She received her doctoral degree in the Applied Clinical Program from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in February 2018.
Dr. Brooks-Gordon received her “Sexual Assault Counselor” certificate in 2012 and volunteered with the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center for a little over a year. During her doctoral practicum, Dr. Brooks-Gordon worked with children on the Autism Spectrum providing in-home ABA services. Dr. Brooks-Gordon worked with a wide range of adults and children during her pre and post-doctoral experience prior to licensure. Dr. Brooks-Gordon became a licensed psychologist in California September 2020 and in Texas March 2021. Dr. Brooks-Gordon is EMDR trained and is currently working towards certification. She is also trained in Brainspotting and working towards certification.
